Welcome to the 52nd BIOTA Annual National Convention & Scientific Sessions!

It is with great pleasure that we invite you to the Philippine Normal University, to attend the 52nd BIOTA Annual National Convention & Scientific Sessions on April 6-8, 2017 with the theme "Biology Education in Unifying ASEAN Countries."

The essence of ASEAN integration is to produce highly qualified, vocational-technical and professional graduates. The integration brings to focus the need to assess our unique Philippine educational system in relation with those of the ASEAN nations so as to produce 21st century citizennationalists with international perspective. This convention seeks to explore issues and concerns relative to biology educators' crucial roles in the changing educational landscape.

Major activities include plenary sessions, seminars, workshops, hands-on activities, poster exhibits, BIOTA memorabilia display, commercial exhibits, and educational field trip.

The activities are designed to:

  • Provide a venue for the exchange of ideas and sharing of experiences on challenges and opportunities encountered in the implementtation of curriculum reforms.
  • Stress the responsibility of biology teachers and researchers in promoting interest, understanding, and appreciation of the biological sciences.
  • Stress the responsibility of biology teachers and researchers in promoting interest and understanding of Biology and its interrelations to other fields.

With its commitment to excellence in biology teaching, research, and community service, BIOTA Philippines, Inc. invites all interested stakeholders to this annual gathering of biology educators, researchers, practitioners, and enthusiasts.


There will be simultaneous sessions during the convention. You may choose from the following sub-themes when you submit your abstract:

  • Biology Education (Inquiry-Based Teaching and Learning, Educational Technology Integration)
  • Research in Life Sciences
  • Integration of Global Issues & Solution (Climate Change, Biodiversity and Bioethics)
  • Health and Wellness
Deadline for abstract submission is: extended to March 6, (Monday)!!!

Important! Please indicate in a footnote in the docx file you uploaded if you wish to submit the abstract for inclusion in competing category for the particular track it was submitted to.

Includes membership fee, convention materials (except for Student Associate Members, 3-day snacks & lunches, field trip, and fellowship dinner. Early online registration is encouraged to ensure receipt of complete convention materials.

****Valid undergraduate student I.D. must be presented, Convention materials not included

  • Only officially registered and paid participants by March 17, 2017, Friday, are allowed to present a paper and to have their abstracts included in the souvenir program.
  • Official receipts may be claimed on-site.
  • Please bring the original bank deposit slip during the convention for verification purposes.
  • Please bring also proof of BIOTA Life Membership
