Call for papers for the 50th BIOTA Annual Convention

50th BIOTA Annual National Convention & Scientific Sessions
9 – 11 April 2015

Submission guidelines for abstract proposals (doc/docx format):

1. Limit abstract to 300 words (excluding title, author name/s and affiliation/s)

2. CONTENT includes: introductory sentence on background of study, objectives, very brief description of methodology, summary of results and discussion, conclusion and/or significance of findings.
3. LAYOUT: TITLE (justify, Arial size 12, uppercase, bold);
AUTHORS (align left, Arial size 10, sentence case, regular, presenting author underlined, superscript number for address placed after author’s name);
ADDRESS (align left, Arial size 9, sentence case, regular, superscript number placed before institution’s name);
TEXT (justify, Arial size 10)

Submit under any of these three (3) categories:

Seminar: a 25-min lecture-seminar and Q&A to be presented during the Scientific Sessions.
Poster: to be presented at the Poster Exhibit.
Workshop: a 1-hr. lecture-demonstration or hands-on activity to be presented during the Scientific Sessions. Please indicate willingness to give a repeat session.

Choose the sub-theme of your abstract submission by indicating it in Keywords

  • K to 12 science curriculum implementation (e.g., teaching-learning tools and materials, professional development models, etc.)
  • Pedagogical practices (e.g., inquiry-based, student-centered, transdisciplinary approach, etc.) as a way of acquisition of basic concepts in Life Science domains
  • Assessment beyond traditional methods
  • Research in the Life Sciences or on curriculum reform in Life Science domains
  • Integration of global issues and solutions
  • Technology in Biology education
  • Others (pls specify):

Only officially registered and paid participants (by March 4, 2015,Wednesday) are allowed to present a paper and to have their abstracts included in the souvenir program.

BIOTA Region XII Chapter Seminar

BIOTA Region XII Chapter will hold a Regional Seminar on the topic “Current Trends in Biology Teaching” on August 2, 2014 at the Notre Dame of Marbel University , Koronadal City, South Cotabato. It will be an occasion for the group to hold a re-organizational meeting to elect officers.

49th BIOTA was held at the Summer Capital of the Philippines

The Biology Teachers Association of the Philippines (BIOTA) held its 49th annual national convention and scientific sessions on April 3-5, 2014 at Baguio City, a 1st class highly urbanized city in the province of Benguet in northern Luzon. Because of its cool climate, Baguio City is known as the Summer Capital of the Philippines.

It is with great pleasure that we invite you to the University of Baguio, to attend the 49th BIOTA Annual National Convention and Scientific Sessions on April 3-5, 2014 with the theme “Innovations in Biology Education in the New Curriculum”.

To be held in cooperation with the University of Baguio, the Department of Education, and the Commission on Higher Education, this annual convention will focus on sharing teaching practices and experiences in employing innovations in biology education to strengthen curricular reforms.  Major activities include plenary sessions, seminars, workshops, demonstrations, hands-on activities, poster exhibits/discussions, educational field trip, and commercial exhibits. It is with great pleasure that we invite you to Far Eastern University, Morayta, Manila to attend the 48th BIOTA Annual National Convention and Scientific Sessions on 4-6 April 2013 with the theme “Enriching Biology Education: Transformative Learning in the K to 12 Curriculum”. To be held in cooperation with the Institute of Arts & Sciences, Far Eastern University, the Department of Education, and the Commission on Higher Education, this annual convention will focus on the potential of transformative learning to enhance biology education in the newly-drafted K to 12 curriculum.
